Fireweed means two things ... it's July on Prince of Wales Island and the soil has been disturbed. It grows in any temperate area where Natives would gather the young shoots in the spring and eat them. Today in Alaska, locals make fireweed honey and syrup for it's distinctive spicy flavor.
