Every spring a select group of permitted fishermen go to a
secluded bay around Klawock, Alaska to what they call the
herring pound. Fishermen use a floating platform that holds
their nets where they put kelp leaves on a line, fill it with
herring and wait until they lay their eggs on the kelp. This
photo was taken from our skiff into the sunlit waters which
I call "kelp-on-line".
